Our family run business uses cows milk from the family's dairy farm in Teesdale.
It's been in the family for four generations so we know the milk is good.
Teesdale Cheesemakers was formally Leaside Cheesemakers, founded by Brian and Esme Dedman in 2012. We are a husband and wife team Allison and Jonathan Raper, who took over the business in January 2016.
We make four soft cheeses: Teesdale Blue, Teesdale White, Teesdale Goat (launched in October 2016), & our flavoured Teesdale Curd cheese.
At the Great Yorkshire Show in 2013 our Teesdale Blue cheese was awarded First Prize in it's class and was also given the prestigious Prince of Wales Award for Outstanding Quality in Dairy Products. The White Hilton was awarded Second Prize in it's class.
In 2014, the 'White Hilton' won it's class at the Great Yorkshire Show as well as winning two gold stars in the Great Taste Awards. The Lemon Flavoured curd cheese also won bronze at the Great Yorkshire Show.
In November 2014 'White Hilton' won Silver at the World Cheese Awards in London - it had quite a year!
No awards were entered during the transition period of 2015.
In July 2016 At the Great Yorkshire Show we won Gold for our Lemon Curd Cheese, Silver for our Ginger Curd Cheese and a bronze for our Teesdale Blue and our Teesdale White (formerly called White Hilton)
Basically, everything we entered in the show was placed and we are blown away by the result!
A couple of weeks later we found out that our Teesdale Blue was also awarded a prestigious star in the Great Taste awards.
Delighted to confirm the following wins for 2017…
In February 2017 we won Best New Business in the Teesdale Business Awards.
In summary, we have won 13 awards. 6 in the last twelve month.
At the beginning of April 2017 Rosemary Shrager and the Fabulous Baker Brothers, Tom and Henry Herbert, visited our dairy. It was the same day as Grandad Raper's funeral. A surreal day to say the least.
They were all very complimentary about our cheese. We are delighted to say that Rosemary gave us an endorsement for our Goat's cheese. Grandad Raper would have been proud. We consider our cheese as part of his legacy.
'That's one of the nicest goat's cheese I have ever tasted. Durham should be proud,' Rosemary Shrager.

At the end of April we heard from the national Artisan Cheese Awards. They had over 500 entries from 116 producers. Our Teesdale Blue and White were awarded a bronze and our Teesdale Goat was awarded a gold.
Everything we entered was placed!
This brings our total awards in the last twelve months to 9!
It's been a great start to the year. Let's see what comes next...
We sell at a number of local farmers markets and food festivals see 'Events', and we can arrange local delivery for larger orders. We also supply a number of local outlets who are listed on this site under 'Where to Buy'. You can find the restaurants that use our cheeses on their menus there too.
Please note we do not sell direct from the dairy.
